Flashback Friday: Evernight by Claudia Gray

Flashback Friday is the day that I get to review the older books that I want to read instead of the new releases that are given to me. There are some great older books out there that should get some attention, too. :) Today's Flashback Friday book was published in 2009. Enjoy!

Genre: Young Adult - Paranormal Romance

Review: Bianca is a shy teenager who doesn't like change and who does not talk to people she doesn't know. Her parents accept teaching jobs at Evernight boarding school and everything changes. Bianca has to try to fit in with people she doesn't understand. They all seem so strange and have traveled in the same circles for years. She feels very out of place until she finally meets Lucas. He's a young man you feels just as out of place as she does. Evernight holds dark secrets though, for both Bianca and Lucas. Will she discover them in time?

This was an enjoyable story. It was a bit cliche for me though. It's another paranormal school -- not original and a bit boring now. The female protagonist of the story is self conscious but pretty and doesn't know it. The male protagonist is brooding and unsocial but incredibly handsome. Does that sound like any other book you've read recently? Probably, but you can't deny their popularity right now. I admit, I am guilty of indulging in these once in a while. Something that was pretty neat about this book is that the secrets of Evernight are hidden from the reader for a lot of the book even though it is told in first person. So, if you're in the mood for a cliche paranormal romance, then this would be a great fit. I did enjoy it. There is a moderate amount of mild profanity in this book.

Author: The first thing I learned while reading about Gray is that this isn't her real name. It's just her pseudo-name. Her real name is Amy Vincent. She worked many jobs before she became a novelist, ranging from disc jockey to lawyer to waitress to journalist. When she isn't writing she enjoys hiking, traveling, reading and listening to music. She currently resides in Chicago. You can read more about her and her books here

Rating: *** Three Stars

I just read all 4 books and I loved them. I was a little worried in book 4 about the ending but it turned out.
