Collin Corner: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

Genre: Children's chapter book/Fantasy

Review: Four children find themselves in another world where animals speak and magic is everywhere. An evil witch has taken over this strange world called Narnia and makes is always winter but never Christmas. The only hope the Narnians have is a prophecy involving four human children and Aslan, the King of Beasts. The children must overcome many trials along the way to hopefully save all of Narnia and become the high kinds and queens of a country they found in a wardrobe.

The Chronicles of Narnia were my FAVORITE books as a child. I loved them and read them over and over again. They're the type of books that I just assume everyone has read but, apparently they haven't. My neighbors children (10 and 13 years old) and another neighborhood child (9 years old) had only heard of the movies. This saddened me. This is one of those books that everyone should read. Preferably the entire series!! I read it with my (now) four year old and five year old and they loved it and were always ready for more. They definitely found the book more exciting when all four children made it to Narnia but they enjoyed the whole thing. Collin, my 5 year old, said "The story was magnificent!" I didn't even know that he knew the word magnificent so it was really cute coming from him. hehe! So, I guess what I'm saying is that this is a classic children's books and, in my opinion, the best out there. =o) So, if you haven't read it then get to the library and get it. Whether you're adult or child you will enjoy this fun story!

Author: Clive Staples Lewis (more commonly called C.S. Lewis but his friends and family referred to him as "Jack") is one of the most notorious writers I know of. He is one of the most commonly quoted people that I hear. He is just incredible in my opinion. :)He was born in 1898 and died in 1963. The Space Trilogy and his Screwtape letters and a few of his books that get him the most recognition. He was close friends of J.R.R. Tolkein (author of The Lord of the Rings).
In 1956 he married an American writer - Joy Gresham - who died only four years later from cancer. She was only 45. C.S. Lewis died three years after his wife from renal failure on the same day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. What a sad day in history -- November 22, 1963.

Rating: Collin gave this one FIVE stars --- *****
