Review: In the realm of Tortall it was traditionally only males who became knights but after the Lioness had pretended to be a boy and became a knight, a decree was passed permitting females to become knights. Keladry of Mindelan becomes the first female knight in training. The boys give her a hard time and no one thinks she will make it through the training. Meanwhile, a war is brewing and Keladry must prove herself to help save Tortall.
This is the first book in the Protector of the Small quartet. There are several series by Tamora Pierce that take place in Tortall and mix in different characters. They are all great. This quartet is one of my favorites though. Loved it! It's that girl power type stuff that I like and it's set in medieval times which I think are incredibly fun.
Author: Pierce has bonus cool points because she shares a birthday with my son. She was born on Dec 13, 1954 in Pennsylvania. She is the oldest of three girls and based one of her characters off her younger sister. To learn more about her then check out her site here.
